No. That "mother bear will surely fight until death" is your assumption. Where is your proof for that? The proof is every time a Mama Bear charges straight into the face of a much bigger and stronger hungry angry male grizzly. That is proof positive.

Big 'boss' male bear who is determined to kill cubs will certainly do so. Bear-mother can make best attempt to convince him not to but will fail if male is too strong. You must accept this is natural fact. Yes, Kam I can accept the fact that if a large male Grizzly who is intent on killing not only the cubs, but the mother as well, it is certainly within his power to do so. However, when the Sow Grizzly is intent on protecting her cubs at all cost she can unleash a fury that even large males may think twice about and stand down. He himself may not want to risk injury... The Grizzly killing a black bear cub - not applicable in this argument. As to your video with the Cougars, I fail to see what this has to do with female Grizzlies protecting their young. If you wanted to state a case for female cougars protecting their young than that is a good video. I am not fluent in any other language other than English unless your video has subtitles. I think this so-called debate if that is what we want to call it has run it's course. You obviously are going to counter everything we say so it's quite pointless to continue this.

I agree here. Female Grizzlies have a tough job raising their cubs in a world where barely 50% survive to see their 1st birthday. Marauding males are their #1 threat so she has no choice than to be very aggressive toward anything she sees as a threat.
In fact I have read where Female Grizzlies with cubs will sometimes use humans as shields to protect from marauding males. She positions herself and her cubs between a human and a male as she knows that male Grizzlies have more of an aversion toward humans and tend to avoid them.

I also remember reading that. Very interesting. Try to imagine the hardships of a mother grizzly with two or three cubs in Ice Age N. America. It was a nightmare for her. There were timber wolves, dire wolves, hyenas, dholes, cougars, cheetahs, jaguars, scimitar cats, saber-toothed cats, giant lions, and a giant bear to contend with... as well as the males of her own species. And people wonder why Mama bear has a bad attitude. Its inherited.

THE FEMALE CALIFORNIA GRIZZLY WITH CUBS WAS EVER VIGILANT IN DEFENSE OF HER OFFSPRING, A FACT TESTIFIED BY MANY HUNTERS. ANYONE COMING CLOSE TO HER WAS IN TROUBLE IMMEDIATELY. CUB WAS KILLED, ENRAGED MOTHER BROKE PIECES OF BARK AND WOOD, MAKING FRIGHTFUL HOWLS.
