This is insane. Black Bear and cub scaling a rocky wall.momma should know better than to lead her cub into that.

I also have that video in "Bears in General" ... "Best Climber - Bear vs Leopard". My question would be, why are they climbing? This is very hazardous, especially for her cub. My suspicions go to trying to escape some danger. My suspicions go further towards human activity. But nothing known for certain.

Reply #92, the uploader of the video said those are Mexican black bears. Well, am glad the cub made it on top safe.

You know we talk all the time about how wonderful mothers Bears are and when talking about Grizzlies specifically, that is a true statement IMO. Then we see videos like that and you scratch your head?? Where were her instincts? It could be she was trying to lead her cub away from danger only to put her cub in another kind of danger. I remember seeing a video of a Grizzly sow who was climbing a snow covered steep slope with her cub in tow. She made it fairly easily to the top but her cub who was very small struggled big time and continuously slid down quite a ways before catching himself and then attempt again. I remember watching the Sow at the top watching her cub fail multiple attempts and could only imagine what she must have been thinking. "what have I done" But the little guy never quit and after falling several times finally made it to the crest. Great video If I don't say so myself.

I absolutely love this video and could watch it over and over. It shows determination in that little grizzly cub. As long as he can see his Momma at the top he's not going to quit.

I am also glad the bear cub made it. Bears are more agile and nimble than given credit for.

Reply 94. A mother black bear will actually leave her cubs up the tree and come back later should a grizzly arrive or she will climb up the tree with her cubs.
